PSC’s April Helping Hand is Miramar Senior Center

TALLAHASSEE — The Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) partnered with the South Central/Southeast Focal Point Senior Center in Miramar during a recent National Consumer Protection Week event and is pleased to recognize the Center as the PSC’s Helping Hand in April.

“With so many scams targeting seniors, the PSC educates seniors on ways to protect themselves against individuals posing as utility representatives,” said PSC Chairman Julie Brown. “We appreciate the Senior Center in Miramar for helping us get the word out on potential scams and on ways to help seniors lower their utility bills.”

Each month, the PSC highlights a partner agency or organization whose clients are eligible for the federal Lifeline telephone discount program and/or need help reducing energy and water bills. Through these PSC Helping Hand partnerships, the Commission shares information to help consumers stretch their resources to meet their monthly bills.

“The PSC’s assistance and education helps our clients and is especially useful as part of our Center’s ongoing health and wellness activities,” said Krishauna Mullings-Delisser, Superintendent for Senior & Social Services, City of Miramar. “Our clients benefitted from the information on Lifeline, scams, energy and water conservation, and utility bill payment assistance, and we look forward to more visits from the PSC.”
