The Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) is presenting its April Triple E Award—for Energy Efficiency Effort—to Guixens Food Group, Inc. (Guixens) in Tampa. Guixens’ leaders have demonstrated “E” for effort by implementing energy efficient measures in their warehouse and other areas to save energy and reduce costs.
“We are pleased to recognize owner Manny Guixens for implementing PSC-approved, cost-effective conservation programs,” said PSC Chairman Art Graham. “Guixens’ lighting retrofit in its 55,000 square foot warehouse and signage reduced operational costs, meaning immediate customer savings.”
“In our warehouse, we retrofitted 36 high bay fixtures, going from 465 watt metal halide lamps to 217 watt induction lamps, and we now enjoy brighter, crisper lighting. All of our incandescent exit signs were also retrofitted to LED. The entire project yielded a reduction of 9.16 kilowatts and kilowatt-hour reduction of 28,579 annually,” said Guixens. “We were so pleased with Tampa Electric Company’s (TECO) assistance to achieve these savings that we’re now in the process of retrofitting our antiquated 40 watt T12 office lighting system with 120 - 18 watt LED linear lamps, projected to save an additional 2.64 kW and 8,237 kWh annually.”
“We are happy to be receiving the PSC’s Triple E Award, and we’re glad we made these lighting improvements,” Guixens added. “Small changes can make a big difference to your bottom line.”
“During a commercial energy audit for Guixens Food Group, our energy analyst identified a great energy-saving opportunity. By implementing our recommended lighting retrofits, Guixens achieved some real savings on their bottom line, too,” said Gordon Gillette, President of Tampa Electric. “Tampa Electric is proud to partner with our customers. We aim to bring an extra level of value and customer service by encouraging small businesses to reduce their energy costs with energy-efficiency improvements.”
The PSC encourages cost-effective conservation and renewable energy to reduce the use of fossil fuels and defer the need for new generating capacity. Through the Florida Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act, the PSC approves conservation programs for the state’s five investor-owned utilities, JEA, and the Orlando Utilities Commission.
Covering the state’s five major geographic areas, each month the PSC gives its Triple E Award to a local business that has accomplished superior energy efficiency. Look for PSC Triple E Award recipients throughout 2015 under Hot Topics on the PSC’s homepage, http://www.floridapsc.com/.
