Florida Public Service Commissioner Julie Brown, as hearing officer, today approved stipulations proposed by Duke Energy Florida, Inc. (DEF), the Florida Industrial Power Users Group, PSC Phosphate, and the Office of Public Counsel, representing consumers, on its petition to purchase the Osprey Energy Center, LLC to meet increased customer demand.
“The PSC’s foremost concern is that DEF’s customers are protected in deciding alternatives to meet additional generation needs,” said Commissioner Julie Brown. “The stipulations approved today include specific provisions ensuring stable costs for customers, and confirms that the Osprey Plant purchase is cost effective for DEF and its customers.”
Owned by the Calpine Construction Finance Company, the Osprey Plant is a combined cycle natural gas facility and is expected to begin serving DEF customers in 2017.
The order approving the stipulations will be reviewed by the full PSC Commission at a future Commission Conference. With today’s approval of the stipulations, tomorrow’s scheduled hearing is cancelled.
