The Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) will conduct two customer meetings on May 1-2, 2007, regarding a Florida Public Utilities Company (FPUC) petition to recover unanticipated expenditures to implement 10 ongoing storm preparedness initiatives required by the PSC.
Because these costs are both significant and unanticipated, FPUC requested that the Commission, through a limited proceeding, approve an adjustment to its base rates to be in effect until the next base rate proceeding is held. FPUC has asked for a base rate change of $700,000 to cover the costs of meeting the annual storm preparedness requirements.
Residential customers using 1,000 kWh per month would see a $1.18 increase in their electric bills if FPUC’s petition is granted. FPUC serves customers in two separate geographic areas: the Northeast or Fernandina Beach division with 15,100 customers and the Northwest or Marianna division with 15,000 customers.
The meetings provide customers an opportunity to comment and ask questions about the company’s petition to adjust its base rates. Customers are invited to attend one of the following meetings:
