Today, the Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) approved an interim rate increase for Florida Public Utilities Company (FPUC).
The Commission’s action suspends the company’s requested permanent rate increase while staff examines the basis for the new rates. The interim increase applies to all rate classes, and residential natural gas customers using 20 therms will see their bills rise by 72 cents.
Interim rates will be effective for all meter readings made on or after 30 days from today’s vote. FPUC is required to give notice to customers with the first bill including the interim increase.
Florida Public Utilities Company serves 51,000 residential and commercial natural gas customers in central and south Florida.
The PSC is committed to making sure that Florida's consumers receive their electric, natural gas, telephone, water, and wastewater services in a safe, affordable, and reliable manner. The PSC exercises regulatory authority over utilities in the areas of rate base/economic regulation; competitive market oversight; and monitoring of safety, reliability, and service.
