Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) Accessibility Statement

The Florida Public Service Commission is committed to ensuring that everyone has full access to the information and services we provide through our website. To assist persons with visual and other challenges, we routinely evaluate our web forms using assistive technologies such as screen readers, text-only web browsers and accessibility analyzers. Following are some of the guidelines we have adopted to ensure compliance with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act:
  • Implemented navigation tools such as site maps and breadcrumb trails
  • Labels used to identify input fields for screen readers or assistive devices for mobility
  • Language specified on Spanish pages
  • Document type identified on all pages to provide information to screen readers
  • Abbreviations and acronyms identified as such to screen readers
  • Where appropriate, "title" attribute used to identify hyperlinks, input fields and tables
  • Where appropriate, tables and control sizes specified in relative terms (% or em), rather than pixels
  • Text size specified using generic font sizes such as <small> to allow user to control font size display
  • "alt" fields specified so screen readers can express a meaningful description of a graphical image
  • Latest XHTML standards adopted to ensure highest compatibility across web browsers, assistive devices and computer operating systems
  • Hyperlinks identified by meaningful text, e.g. "Visit the Florida Public Service Commission website", instead of "For information, click here"
  • Adopted significant use of headings and other HTML document structuring capabilities to provide better over-all page navigation
  • Text transcripts provided upon request for most events with audio-visual coverage
  • "Skip navigation" used to allow screen readers to move directly to page content
  • Limited use of "client-side scripts" and other technologies that refresh page content without notifying users of assistive devices such as screen readers
  • Omitted automatic page refreshes, web forms with timed responses, non-essential multimedia content, page frames, text effects and other technologies or web content known to cause problems for assistive devices

PSC Recommendations

  • Persons with low to moderate visual problems can increase browser font size. Methods for changing font size are described in the document "Increasing Font Size."
  • Use the latest version of your web browser, because it provides features likely to be most compliant with accessibility standards and compatible with current assistive technologies. Accessibility tutorials are available to users of Internet Explorer. Users of Mozilla/Firefox can download an accessibility toolbar.
  • If your computer has the Microsoft XP® operating system, you can use its accessibility wizard. Apple's® OS X has several accessibility features, including VoiceOver, a built-in screenreader.
  • Accessibility tutorials are available for a variety of Microsoft products, including Outlook and Word.
